WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

– 5+ years of professional iOS development experience

• Manage and resolve escalated queries from business customers via phone, chat, and email.
• Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., legal, billing, operations, etc.) to solve complex customer issues and ensure timely resolution.

What you’ll do:

• Once part of A.Team, you’ll regularly be invited to impactful missions that match your interests. Find the right pick from early-stage incubations with world-class founders, to fast-growing super-funded companies, to old school non-tech incumbents looking to build as a tech giant would

• Missions usually involve building an ambitious piece of software from 0 to 1 as part of a small 3-4 person team.

About the job

System Administrators at Discourse are computing system generalists. This role will see you debugging across all layers of our tech stack, with a particular focus on the foundational network, storage, and systems management layers that support production Discourse deployments. Our System Administrators are responsible for ongoing capacity planning, platform reliability and security improvements, and compliance. Advances are often achieved through the design and implementation of new software tools and services.

Discourse is primarily a hosting company. Robust infrastructure is a core competency for us. Most deployments are served from our own bare metal, with AWS and other cloud services used as necessary.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Applying fundamental computing theory to solve problems in sustainable space and time.
• When reasoning about infrastructure improvements, you draw upon these combined skills to choose or build the right tool for the job.
• Engaging vendors and datacenter personnel to purchase, deploy, and manage hardware.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has a well-rounded understanding of how applications interface with the operating system, how the operating system interfaces with the network.
• Can read C, and feel at home in Unix-like systems.
• Has fluency in at least one high-level programming language. We have a large amount of infrastructure tooling, primarily in Ruby and Go.
• Has experience with at least some of the tools we use: Docker, Puppet, Terraform, Prometheus, ELK.

Full-time Software Engineer – Customer Solutions

About the job

Software Engineers at Discourse are generalists. Some days you may be working on a complex JavaScript feature implemented in Ember.js. Other days you may be working on our Ruby on Rails API server. Some days you may be contributing patches to frameworks or working on one of the many gems and libraries Discourse maintains.

The majority of the work you will do will be open source.

Discourse is primarily a hosting company: some of your focus will be around improving our hosting infrastructure, resolving issues for customers, or assisting with customer-specific implementations and migrations.

Applicants will have a 10-40 hour paid trial project (over 2-10 weeks) prior to joining the team. The trial project usually involves adding a feature to Discourse or a Discourse plugin.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Communicate daily with clients and work with them to agree on work priorities
• Implement and document client features
• Discuss and decide with internal Discourse teams whether features are appropriate in core, or in client plugins
• Maintain client-specific features against latest core versions
• Highlight new critical core features to high-profile clients
• Schedule and deploy patches and upgrades

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has some Ruby and JavaScript experience
• Is passionate about open source and comfortable with public code reviews
• Has a knack for implementing processes, technologies, and solutions for a fast-paced environment.
